Salon Gatherings
“A salon is a gathering of people held partly to amuse one another and partly to refine the taste and increase the knowledge of the participants through conversation.
Salon gatherings of the literary and the philosophical movements of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries often followed Horace’s definition of the aims of poetry - ‘either to please or educate’.”
The Salon gatherings in the decade commencing 2020, are informal gatherings for women who have participated in the Foundation Workshop. These gatherings provide a forum to embrace our experiences and observations of life, using these works, film, literature, mythology, or philosophy as a bridge for discussion. It is in the articulation of your views that you come to know what you think and feel and what matters most. We thus 'provide ourselves' with direction and personal support to live self-directed lives guided by our inner knowing.
Synthesising the approach of the Salon Gatherings of old - “Conversation with a view to increasing knowledge” within the theme of Know Thy-Self, these are not intellectual discussions about others. Our discussions are about increasing your knowing of yourself through sharing the way you see the world. When we value and 'own' our points of view, we grow our strength. Likewise being open to changing your point of view and saying so (as necessary) indicates a turning point whereupon you are moving through the 'fledging' stage and beginning the 'claiming stage' of who you really are.
For those who are seeking depth and breath, these gatherings provide the space and place to share informally.
“If you wish to be curious,
be curious,
mostly about yourself.”
